Specialist Injury and Recovery Osteopaths in Norwich, Norfolk

Are you are in pain? You don’t have to live with chronic discomfort.

Osteopathy uses physical manipulation to diagnose and treat painful and damaged muscles, ligaments, nerves or joints. Osteopathy is a primary health care system, complementary to other medical practices. It is a method of diagnosis and treatment of injuries and painful conditions to help you feel your best. An osteopath works with the structure and function of the body to restore it to a state of balance and harmony.

Our team of osteopaths Norfolk specialise in the treatment of pain and injury. Get in touch today or book an appointment to start your recovery journey.

Osteopathy

Can’t recommend highly enough

Liz is amazing. I have used 3 osteopaths in the last 15 years for general issues in relation to poor posture (working with a laptop from home, and driving loads). She is the only one who I feel comfortable with and is able to manage my pain. I have not seen any of the other osteopaths for years now. Whilst I will always need ongoing treatment (probably because I don’t follow her guidance; re stretches etc as much as I should) I am happy for the benefit that I gain from my visits every month or so. Great person, and brilliant at her job.

This is what you should expect when you come for an osteopathy appointment:

  • Discuss the symptoms you are experiencing and ask you questions about your general health, lifestyle and medical history
  • Examine you
  • Outline the treatment programme
  • Treatment using our hands to gently work on the muscles, bones and joints of your body and advise you on how to avoid the problem happening again including exercise, stretches, work and driving posture etc.

The osteopathic examination will include:

  • Visual examination
  • Hands-on examination where we use our hands to gently feel for restrictions or structural problems in your muscles, tissues, joints and bones. If you are wearing bulky clothing, you may be required to remove the outer layer for us to assess the affected area. Gym clothing, shorts or a light t-shirt/strap top tends to be ok to work and assess through. Towels and blankets are available if required.
  • General health checks. These could include blood pressure measurements and coordination and reflex tests.

Treatment will often involve some combination of the following:

  • Soft tissue massage
  • Joint articulation
  • Rhythmic stretching
  • Fluid drainage
  • Highly specialised joint manipulation

Osteopathy causes little or no pain. For 24 to 48 hours after the treatment you may experience some minor discomfort or aggravation of your symptoms. This is a normal part of your body’s response to the treatment. If you are uncertain about your body’s response please feel free to contact us on the practice phone number. It is common for the full benefit of the treatment to be felt after 2 to 3 days.

The Osteopaths Act 1993 Establishes the General Osteopathic Council to “provide for the regulation of the profession of osteopathy.”

In 1993 osteopathy became the first major complementary health care profession to be accorded statutory regulation. From 1998 all osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council. This means that all osteopaths on the register have demonstrated that they are safe and competent and all patients have the same safeguards as when they currently visit their doctor or dentist.
